What it is used for
According to the US FDA label for telmisartan tablets (DailyMed), telmisartan is used for high blood pressure, and lowering the risk of heart attack, stroke or death from heart causes in people 55 years and older at high risk of major heart events who cannot take an ACE inhibitor. The US label carries a boxed warning that medicines acting on the renin angiotensin system can injure or cause the death of an unborn baby, so telmisartan should be stopped as soon as pregnancy is found.
