Penegra 25mg

Penegra 25 is a sildenafil tablet made in India by Zydus. Each tablet contains sildenafil citrate equivalent to 25 mg of sildenafil, the same active ingredient and the same strength as Viagra 25 mg. We sell it in packs of 60, 120, 180 and 240 tablets, from $0.55 a tablet in the largest pack.

Three points first. 25 mg is not the usual starting dose for most men: the US sildenafil label recommends 50 mg for most patients. It is the strength the US label advises considering as a starting dose for men over 65, men with liver impairment or severe kidney impairment, and men taking erythromycin or a strong CYP3A4 inhibitor; it is the dose to start on once you are stable on an alpha blocker; and men taking ritonavir should take no more than 25 mg in 48 hours. The UK and EU label differs on some of these groups, and this page says where. And in the US, generic sildenafil 25 mg costs pharmacies about 12 cents a tablet, so US readers with a prescription should compare local generic prices first. Clinical figures come from the US prescribing information for Viagra and the UK and EU product information, listed at the end.

All four packs are under the $149 free shipping line, so a single pack carries $25 shipping; adding a second product can take an order past $149. The larger packs are cheaper per tablet before shipping too.

Sildenafil is taken as needed, no more than once a day, so a pack is a number of doses rather than a course: 60 tablets are 60 doses. Check the expiry date on the strips when your order arrives and plan how many tablets you will realistically use before it.

For the same 25 mg dose, our Cenforce 25 costs $65 for 90 tablets ($0.72 a tablet), $81 for 120 ($0.68), $95 for 150 ($0.63) and $162 for 300 ($0.54), before shipping; Malegra 25 is priced the same. Cenforce 25's 300 pack is over $149, so it ships free and works out at $0.54 a tablet all in, against $0.66 for Penegra's 240 pack with shipping (our arithmetic). Penegra's 60 pack is the smallest 25 mg pack we sell.

Penegra 25 compared with Viagra and US generics

Penegra 25, Viagra 25 mg and FDA-approved generic sildenafil 25 mg all contain the same molecule at the same labelled strength. The difference is regulatory review: Viagra was approved on clinical trial evidence, US generics had to prove bioequivalence to it, and the FDA inspects manufacturing for both, while the Indian Penegra pack has not been assessed by the FDA, MHRA, TGA or Health Canada. We have not seen bioequivalence data comparing Penegra with Viagra. Price is the other difference.

NADAC is the average price US pharmacies pay to buy a medicine, published by the US Medicaid programme; the price at the counter is higher and depends on the pharmacy and your insurance. In the NADAC file effective 21 October 2026, all 19 rows for generic sildenafil 25 mg tablets were $0.12192 a tablet, so our Penegra 25 costs roughly 4.5 to 9 times that rate before shipping (our arithmetic). Viagra 25 mg is listed in the FDA's NDC directory (Viatris, bottle of 30), but the 2026 NADAC file has no row for it; the only Viagra row is the 100 mg tablet, at $83.70474 a tablet (effective 21 October 2026). Zydus, Cadila and US approvals. In the FDA's Drugs@FDA data, the sildenafil product approved for Zydus Lifesciences is an oral suspension (10 mg per mL, ANDA 215708), not a tablet; we found no Zydus sildenafil tablet approval. A US approval for sildenafil tablets in 25, 50 and 100 mg (ANDA 218045) is held by Cadila Pharmaceuticals, a separate company: the Modi and Patel families split the original Cadila business in 1995, and the Patel side, Cadila Healthcare, is today's Zydus Lifesciences. Neither approval covers Penegra.

Sildenafil 20 mg is a different product. In the US, Revatio and generic sildenafil 20 mg tablets are licensed for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), at 20 mg three times a day, not for erectile dysfunction (Revatio US label, sections 1 and 2). The Revatio label tells patients taking it not to take Viagra or other PDE5 inhibitors (5.6), so never take Penegra with Revatio. Our sildenafil 20 mg (Revatio) guide covers the PAH product.

Which strength to choose

The sildenafil label recommends 50 mg for most men, allows a move down to 25 mg or up to 100 mg depending on effect and side effects, and sets 100 mg as the maximum dose (US label 2.1; UK and EU label 4.2). Penegra also comes in 50 mg and 100 mg, and as Penegra Xpress 50; use the strength selector above to see the ones we stock.

Does 25 mg work? In four fixed-dose trials described in the US label (1,797 men, 12 to 24 weeks), 63% of men on 25 mg reported improved erections, against 74% on 50 mg, 82% on 100 mg and 24% on placebo (section 14). The label adds that scores improved more at 50 mg and 100 mg than at 25 mg. The UK and EU product information gives similar figures: 62%, 74% and 82% against 25% on placebo (5.1). So 25 mg helps many men, but less often than the higher strengths, and side effects are also less common at 25 mg (see the table below).

If 25 mg is not enough. The label allows the dose to be raised to 50 mg and then to a maximum of 100 mg, based on effect and side effects; for kidney and liver impairment, the UK and EU label says the dose "may be increased step-wise to 50 mg up to 100 mg as necessary" (4.2). If you started on 25 mg for one of the reasons below, agree any increase with your doctor. If you take ritonavir, the US label's recommended dose is 25 mg and the maximum is 25 mg in 48 hours, so there is no step up.

Who the 25 mg strength is for

These are the groups for whom the labels advise 25 mg, because sildenafil levels in the blood run higher or blood pressure can fall further. The labels do not all agree, so each point says which label it comes from.

• Men over 65. The US label says to consider a starting dose of 25 mg in patients over 65 (2.5, 8.5). Healthy volunteers aged 65 or over had about 84% higher sildenafil exposure (AUC) than young men, or 45% for the unbound drug (8.5). The UK and EU label differs: "Dose adjustments are not required in elderly patients (≥ 65 years old)" (4.2). So age alone is a reason for 25 mg under the US label only.
• Liver impairment. The US label says to consider 25 mg as the starting dose for any degree of hepatic impairment; exposure rose 85% in Child-Pugh A and B, and severe (Child-Pugh C) impairment has not been studied (8.7). The UK and EU label says a 25 mg dose should be considered in hepatic impairment (for example cirrhosis), but lists severe hepatic impairment as a contraindication (4.2, 4.3), so under that label Penegra 25 is not suitable for severe liver disease.
• Severe kidney impairment (creatinine clearance below 30 mL/min). Both labels say a 25 mg dose should be considered; exposure roughly doubled (US 8.6; UK and EU 4.2). Mild and moderate kidney impairment need no dose change.
• Erythromycin and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors. The US label says to consider a 25 mg starting dose with erythromycin or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors such as ketoconazole, itraconazole or saquinavir (2.4, 7.4); erythromycin raised exposure by 182% and saquinavir by 210% (12.3). The UK and EU label says a 25 mg starting dose should be considered with CYP3A4 inhibitors (4.2). Other HIV protease inhibitors have not been studied but are expected to raise sildenafil levels (US 12.3).
• Ritonavir. The US label recommends 25 mg before sex and no more than 25 mg within 48 hours, because ritonavir raised sildenafil exposure 11-fold; 24 hours after a dose, blood levels were still about 200 ng/mL against about 5 ng/mL without ritonavir (2.4, 12.3). The UK and EU label says sildenafil with ritonavir "is not advised", and that in any event the dose should under no circumstances exceed 25 mg within 48 hours (4.4, 4.5). Do not start sildenafil while taking ritonavir without asking your HIV doctor.
• Alpha blockers (for example doxazosin or tamsulosin). The US label says to be stable on the alpha blocker first, then start sildenafil at 25 mg (2.3), because the combination can cause symptomatic low blood pressure, such as dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting (5.5). The UK and EU label says to be stabilised first and that starting at 25 mg should be considered; low blood pressure is most likely within 4 hours of the sildenafil dose (4.2, 4.4). In one US label study of men with an enlarged prostate on doxazosin, the first 4 men were given 100 mg; one had severe postural hypotension lasting 8 hours, and the dose was then cut to 25 mg for the next 17 men (12.2). If you are already settled on sildenafil and need to start an alpha blocker, the US label says the alpha blocker should start at its lowest dose (5.5).
• Blood pressure medicines. Sildenafil may lower blood pressure further in men taking them (US 5.5); with amlodipine, a 100 mg dose lowered it by an extra 8/7 mmHg (7.3). A lower dose does not mean a smaller blood pressure fall: in healthy volunteers, the label found similar falls with 25 mg, 50 mg and 100 mg (12.2).

25 mg does not make sildenafil safe with nitrates. They are contraindicated at any dose (US 4.1; UK and EU 4.3).

How to take Penegra 25

• Take one tablet with water about an hour before sex. The US label allows anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours beforehand.
• Take no more than one dose in 24 hours (no more than one 25 mg dose in 48 hours if you take ritonavir), and never combine it with another sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil product.
• It can be taken with or without food (US patient information), but a high-fat meal delays the peak blood level by about an hour and lowers it by 29% (US 12.3), so it may work later after a heavy meal.
• It works only with sexual stimulation. It does not cause an erection on its own.
• Our advice: give it several attempts before deciding it does not work for you.

Side effects by dose

These rates come from the fixed-dose trials in the US label, where each man stayed on one dose, so the strengths can be compared directly. The table lists every reaction in the label's Table 1 (reported by 2% or more of men and more often than with placebo). In the fixed-dose studies, some side effects became more common as the dose rose, and at doses above the recommended range, side effects were similar but "generally were reported more frequently" (US 6.1).

In the label, abnormal vision was mostly a colour tinge to vision, sometimes with extra sensitivity to light or blurring, and was mild to moderate and temporary. In placebo-controlled studies, 2.5% of men on sildenafil stopped because of side effects, against 2.3% on placebo (US 6.1).

When to get urgent help

• An erection lasting more than 4 hours. Without prompt treatment it can permanently damage the penis and cause lasting erectile dysfunction.
• Sudden loss or reduction of vision in one or both eyes. Stop taking sildenafil and get medical help straight away.
• Sudden loss or reduction of hearing, sometimes with ringing in the ears or dizziness. Stop taking sildenafil and get prompt medical attention.
• Chest pain, dizziness or nausea during sex: stop and get medical help right away.
• Fainting, or swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or a rash, hives or blistering skin.
• If you take more than one tablet, contact a doctor or emergency department straight away.

If you need emergency care for a heart problem, tell the staff that you took sildenafil, how much and when. Nitrates are a standard emergency treatment for chest pain, and the label says it is not known when they can safely be given after sildenafil, even 24 hours later (US 4.1). In men over 65, men with liver or severe kidney impairment and men on erythromycin or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, sildenafil levels 24 hours after a dose were 3 to 8 times higher than in healthy volunteers (US 12.2), which is one more reason to tell the staff. The patient information notes that heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeat and death have happened rarely in men taking sildenafil, most but not all of whom had heart problems before; it is not known whether the drug caused them.

Who must not take Penegra 25

Never take it if (contraindications in both the US label, section 4, and the UK and EU label, section 4.3):

• You use nitrates in any form, regularly or occasionally, including nitroglycerin sprays, tablets or patches for angina, and amyl or butyl nitrite "poppers". The combination can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure.
• You take a guanylate cyclase stimulator such as riociguat (Adempas).
• You are allergic to sildenafil (in Viagra or Revatio) or any ingredient of the tablet.

The UK and EU label also lists these as contraindications (4.3); the US label does not list them as contraindications: it advises caution (blood pressure, recent stroke or heart attack, retinitis pigmentosa, NAION) or a 25 mg start (liver impairment):

• severe liver impairment
• blood pressure below 90/50
• a recent stroke or heart attack
• retinitis pigmentosa or another inherited degenerative retinal disorder
• loss of vision in one eye from NAION, whether or not it followed a PDE5 inhibitor. The US label says that men who have had NAION should use PDE5 inhibitors with caution, and only when the anticipated benefits outweigh the risks (5.3).

Should not be used or not recommended:

• Men for whom sex is inadvisable because of a heart condition, for example unstable angina or severe heart failure (UK and EU 4.3; US 5.1 says erectile dysfunction treatments "should not be generally used" in these men). The US label has no controlled data in men who had a heart attack, stroke or life-threatening arrhythmia in the last 6 months, men with resting blood pressure below 90/50 or above 170/110, or men with heart failure or unstable angina (5.1).
• Combining Penegra with Revatio, another PDE5 inhibitor such as tadalafil or vardenafil, or other erectile dysfunction treatments. These combinations have not been studied, may lower blood pressure further, and are "not recommended" (US 5.7).
• Ritonavir: "not advised" in the UK and EU label (4.4); limited to 25 mg in 48 hours in the US label (2.4).

Talk to a doctor first if you take an alpha blocker, blood pressure medicines, HIV medicines or other CYP3A4 inhibitors (see above), or if you have aortic stenosis or another obstruction to blood flow out of the heart, severely impaired control of blood pressure, a deformed penis (angulation or Peyronie's disease), a condition that raises the risk of prolonged erections (sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma, leukaemia), a bleeding disorder or an active stomach ulcer (US 5.1, 5.2, 5.8). Penegra is for adult men only; sildenafil is not indicated for women or children (US 8.1, 8.4). It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

Prescription and legal status

Sildenafil is a prescription medicine in the US, Australia and Canada. In the UK it is prescription only apart from 50 mg pharmacy packs such as Viagra Connect, so a 25 mg tablet needs a prescription there. Apollo Pharmacy and myUpchar list Penegra 25 as a prescription medicine in India. The Indian Penegra pack is not registered with the FDA, the MHRA, the TGA or Health Canada. In the US, the FDA says personal importation of unapproved medicines is illegal in most circumstances. The MHRA warns: "Any medicine not authorised for sale in the UK can be unsafe or ineffective and there is no way of knowing what is in them or the negative health effects they can have." We recommend seeing a doctor before using sildenafil, especially if you are in one of the 25 mg groups above, have heart disease or take regular medicines, and checking the rules where you live before ordering. Buying genuine Penegra

Counterfeit erectile dysfunction pills are common in unlicensed channels. When Pfizer tested 22 orders from websites claiming to sell its Viagra in 2011, 77% were counterfeit, with 30% to 50% of the labelled dose. The MHRA warning quoted above covers Penegra, and the MHRA says erectile dysfunction pills bought online may contain no active ingredient, the wrong dose, hidden drugs or toxic ingredients. It advises UK buyers: "Only use UK-registered pharmacies, including online pharmacies displaying the official green cross logo". When your order arrives, check that each strip names Zydus and shows a batch number and an expiry date, and reject strips that are damaged, unsealed or unmarked. These checks cannot prove a product is genuine on their own, because counterfeiters copy packaging. If a batch causes unusual symptoms, stop using it, seek medical advice, and report it to your medicines regulator (the MHRA Yellow Card scheme in the UK, FDA MedWatch in the US, the TGA in Australia or Health Canada) as well as to us.
