What it is used for
According to the US FDA label for Olumiant (DailyMed), baricitinib is used for moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis in adults after one or more TNF blockers did not work well enough, severe alopecia areata in patients 12 years and older, and COVID 19 in hospitalized adults who need oxygen or ventilation. On the US label, the 4 mg strength is used for severe alopecia areata and for COVID 19; the US recommended dose for rheumatoid arthritis is 2 mg. The US label carries a boxed warning about serious infections including tuberculosis, a higher death rate, cancer, major heart events and blood clots. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.
