What it is used for
According to the US FDA label for vancomycin hydrochloride for injection (DailyMed), vancomycin is used for septicemia, infective endocarditis, skin and skin structure infections, bone infections and lower respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria such as MRSA when given into a vein, and Clostridioides difficile associated diarrhea and Staphylococcus aureus enterocolitis (including methicillin resistant strains) when given by mouth, in adults and children; IV vancomycin does not work for C. difficile diarrhea or S. aureus enterocolitis, and oral vancomycin does not work for the infections treated by IV use. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.
