Kamagra Oral Jelly: How to Take It, Dose, Food, Side Effects and Legal Status

Kamagra Oral Jelly is sildenafil, the drug in Viagra, in a flavoured gel. Each sachet holds 100 mg, the maximum single dose of sildenafil. It is made in India by Ajanta Pharma and sold online around the world, but it is not licensed by the FDA in the US, the MHRA in the UK or the European Medicines Agency.

This guide is about using the jelly well: what a sachet contains, how and when to take it, why food matters, whether it really works faster than a tablet, the side effects at the 100 mg dose, who must not take it, and how to avoid fakes. The evidence comes from the Viagra prescribing information in the US and EU, studies of dissolving forms of sildenafil, and UK regulator data. No study has measured Kamagra Oral Jelly itself, and we say where that leaves gaps.

The short answer

Take one sachet about an hour before sex, on an empty or light stomach, and never more than one in 24 hours. It works only with sexual stimulation. There is no published evidence that the jelly acts faster than a tablet; studies of licensed dissolving forms found the same blood levels as tablets (the dissolving tablet when taken without water), and food delayed them at least as much as tablets. Because each sachet is 100 mg, the top dose, men who need 25 mg or 50 mg are better served by tablets they can dose accurately. Never take it with nitrates or poppers.

Sildenafil works by blocking PDE5, an enzyme that ends an erection. It does not create desire and does nothing without sexual stimulation. Our sildenafil guide explains how it works in detail.

How to take Kamagra Oral Jelly

1. Check the sachet. It should show the manufacturer, strength, batch number and expiry date, and be sealed.
2. Time it. Take it about an hour before sex. The US Viagra label allows anywhere from 30 minutes to 4 hours.
3. Keep your stomach empty or light. A heavy, fatty meal delays sildenafil, and dissolving forms are delayed at least as much (see below).
4. Squeeze the gel into your mouth or onto a spoon and swallow. Water is optional.
5. Do not take a second sachet the same day, even if the first did not seem to work. The maximum is one dose in 24 hours.

Is a whole sachet the right dose?

Often not. The Viagra label's usual starting dose is 50 mg, adjusted to 25 mg or 100 mg depending on effect and side effects. The labels advise considering a 25 mg starting dose for several groups: men taking an alpha blocker for the prostate or blood pressure, men taking drugs that slow sildenafil's breakdown (CYP3A4 inhibitors such as some antifungals and antibiotics), men with liver impairment or severe kidney impairment, and, in the US label, men over 65. Men taking ritonavir, an HIV medicine, must not use a 100 mg sachet at all: ritonavir raises sildenafil levels 11-fold, and the US label caps the dose at 25 mg in 48 hours, while the EU product information advises against the combination.

A sachet cannot be divided into halves or quarters with any accuracy. If you need 25 mg or 50 mg, a tablet you can take whole, such as a 50 mg tablet, is a better choice than guessing at part of a sachet. Our guide to taking sildenafil safely covers who should start low and why.

Side effects at 100 mg

Sildenafil's common side effects rise with dose, and some rise sharply between 50 mg and 100 mg. In the fixed-dose trials in the US Viagra label:

Abnormal vision in the label means mild to moderate, temporary changes, mainly a colour tinge to vision, and also light sensitivity or blurring. Because every Kamagra sachet is the 100 mg dose, these figures are the ones that apply to a full sachet.

Does the jelly work faster than a tablet?

There is no published evidence that it does. No pharmacokinetic study of Kamagra Oral Jelly has been published. The closest evidence comes from licensed dissolving forms of sildenafil:

• The EU-approved Viagra 50 mg orodispersible tablet, taken without water, was bioequivalent to the standard 50 mg tablet in 36 men. Taken with water, its peak level was 14% lower.
• A 100 mg orodispersible film was bioequivalent to the Viagra 100 mg tablet in 53 men, with nearly identical blood level curves.

Bioequivalent means the same amount reaching the blood at about the same speed. So a dissolving form is a convenience, not a faster drug. How fast sildenafil itself works has been measured with a stopwatch: in a trial of men who already responded to it, 35% on 100 mg had an erection that led to successful sex within 14 minutes (22% on placebo) and 51% within 20 minutes (30% on placebo).

Food slows dissolving forms at least as much as tablets

A common claim is that a jelly avoids the food delay because it is absorbed in the mouth. The evidence for dissolving forms does not support that. These results come from separate studies; the only regulator-reviewed food study of a dissolving form tested the orodispersible tablet in 12 men. After a high-fat meal:

The total amount absorbed changed little (for the dissolving tablet it was 12% lower); what changed was how quickly and how high the level rose. The EU product information for dissolving Viagra advises taking it on an empty stomach. The US label for Vybrique, a sildenafil oral film approved in December 2025, allows it with or without food. For a jelly with no data of its own, an empty or light stomach is the safer bet if you want the fastest, strongest peak. How long it lasts

The Viagra label's dosing window runs from 30 minutes to 4 hours before sex, and the EU product information gives a half-life of 3 to 5 hours. Some men still respond later: in a RigiScan study of 16 men, erections during stimulation started 12 hours after 100 mg still lasted more than twice as long as on placebo (Gingell 2004). If it does not seem to work

A single disappointing attempt says little. The common reasons are practical: taking it after a heavy meal, taking it too close to sex, too much alcohol, anxiety, or not enough sexual stimulation, which sildenafil needs in order to work. Try again on another day with the timing and food advice above, but never take a second sachet on the same day.

If sildenafil at 100 mg, taken correctly on several occasions, does not help, see a doctor rather than trying stronger products. Alcohol

Alcohol and sildenafil both lower blood pressure, and heavy drinking can itself make erections harder to get. Keep alcohol moderate on the day you use it. The safe use guide shows the blood pressure data from the label's alcohol study.

Who must not take it

• Anyone using a nitrate in any form, including nitroglycerin sprays or tablets for angina, isosorbide, or recreational "poppers". The combination can drop blood pressure dangerously.
• Anyone taking riociguat for pulmonary hypertension.
• Men with a recent heart attack or stroke, blood pressure below 90/50 mmHg, or severe liver impairment (all contraindicated in the EU product information).
• Men for whom sex is inadvisable because of heart disease, such as unstable angina or severe heart failure, or with uncontrolled high blood pressure, unless a doctor has assessed them.
• Men who have had sudden vision loss from NAION, or who have retinitis pigmentosa (the EU product information contraindicates both; the US label advises caution).
• Anyone taking another PDE5 inhibitor (tadalafil, vardenafil, avanafil) or another sildenafil product the same day.

Talk to a doctor first if you take alpha blockers, HIV medicines, certain antifungals or antibiotics, are over 65, or have kidney disease or milder liver disease, a bleeding disorder, a penile deformity, or a condition that raises the risk of priapism such as sickle cell anaemia.

When to get urgent help

• An erection lasting more than 4 hours.
• Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes, or sudden hearing loss.
• Chest pain, fainting or severe dizziness during or after sex. Tell the emergency team you have taken sildenafil so they do not give you a nitrate.

Storage and flavours

Keep sachets sealed, away from heat and out of reach of children, and throw away any that are torn, swollen or past their expiry date. The flavours are a matter of taste; they do not change the dose.

Is Kamagra Oral Jelly legal?

Kamagra is not licensed in the US, UK or EU, so it cannot be sold there as a medicine. In the UK, the MHRA seized about 19.5 million doses of illegally traded erectile dysfunction medicines between 2021 and 2025, including 4.4 million in 2025, and warns people not to buy them from social media, messaging apps or unknown websites.

There are licensed alternatives. In the UK, sildenafil 50 mg (Viagra Connect) has been available from pharmacies without a prescription since it was reclassified in November 2017 (on sale from 2018), after a pharmacist consultation, for men aged 18 and over. In the US, generic sildenafil tablets are widely available on prescription and are inexpensive, and a licensed sildenafil oral film, Vybrique, was approved in December 2025. In the US, personal importation of unapproved medicines is illegal in most circumstances.

Real Kamagra and fakes

Because Kamagra is sold outside licensed channels, counterfeits are common. In a study of "Viagra" ordered from top internet search results, 77% of the samples were counterfeit, and the fakes contained 30% to 50% of the labelled sildenafil. Kamagra buyers face the same market.

• Buy from a seller that names Ajanta Pharma as the manufacturer and shows batch number and expiry date. These checks lower the risk but cannot prove a product is genuine, because counterfeits copy names and batch codes; the MHRA warns that fake pills can contain no active ingredient, the wrong dose or hidden drugs.
• Reject sachets that are unsealed, misprinted or without a batch number.
• Be wary of sellers that promise effects in a few minutes, "extra strength" sachets above 100 mg, or no side effects.
• If a sachet causes unusual symptoms, stop using the batch and seek advice.
