What is Bacipen 250mg?

Bacipen 250mg is an Indian brand of ampicillin, a penicillin antibiotic. Each capsule contains ampicillin 250 mg. It is made by Alembic Pharmaceuticals Ltd in India.

What it is used for

According to the US FDA label for ampicillin capsules (DailyMed), ampicillin is used for infections caused by susceptible bacteria in the urinary and genital tract (including gonorrhea), the respiratory tract and the gut, and meningitis caused by Neisseria meningitidis. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.

Bacipen 250mg comes in packs of 30, 60 and 90 capsules. The lowest price works out at about $0.52 per capsule on the 90 capsule pack, as of October 2026; the pack selector shows the current price. Shipping is $25 on orders under $149 and free from $149.

Prescription status

Ampicillin capsules are prescription only in the US and Canada. Oral ampicillin is not currently marketed in the UK or Australia. Bacipen 250mg itself is an India made pack and is not approved by the FDA, MHRA, TGA or Health Canada. The FDA says that importing unapproved medicines for personal use is illegal in most circumstances, so check the rules where you live.
