What is Famcimac 250mg?

Famcimac 250mg is an Indian brand of famciclovir, an antiviral medicine. Each tablet contains famciclovir 250 mg. It is made by Macleods Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd in India.

What it is used for

According to the US FDA label for famciclovir tablets (DailyMed), famciclovir is used for repeat cold sores, repeat genital herpes episodes and long term suppression of genital herpes, and shingles in adults, plus repeat cold sores or genital herpes in adults with HIV. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.

Prescription status

Famciclovir is prescription only in the US, UK and Canada. In Australia it is prescription only, except small cold sore packs that a pharmacist can supply. Famcimac 250mg itself is an India made pack and is not approved by the FDA, MHRA, TGA or Health Canada. The FDA says that importing unapproved medicines for personal use is illegal in most circumstances, so check the rules where you live.
