What is Eliquis 5mg?

Eliquis 5mg is apixaban, an anticoagulant (factor Xa inhibitor), sold in India under the Eliquis brand name by Pfizer India Ltd. Each tablet contains apixaban 5 mg.

What it is used for

According to the US FDA label for Eliquis (DailyMed), apixaban is used for lowering the risk of stroke and blood clots in adults with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem, preventing deep vein thrombosis after hip or knee replacement, treating deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and lowering the risk of them coming back, and treating venous thromboembolism in children. The US label carries a boxed warning that stopping it early raises the risk of blood clots and stroke, and that bleeding around the spine (spinal or epidural hematoma), which can cause lasting paralysis, can happen in people who have spinal anesthesia or a spinal puncture. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.

Prescription status

Apixaban is a prescription medicine in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. Eliquis 5mg itself is an Indian market pack and is not approved by the FDA, MHRA, TGA or Health Canada. The FDA says that importing unapproved medicines for personal use is illegal in most circumstances, so check the rules where you live.

Before you order
