What is Pradaxa 110mg?

Pradaxa 110mg is dabigatran etexilate, an anticoagulant (direct thrombin inhibitor), sold in India under the Pradaxa brand name by Boehringer Ingelheim India Pvt Ltd. Each capsule contains dabigatran etexilate 110 mg.

What it is used for

According to the US FDA label for Pradaxa capsules (DailyMed), dabigatran etexilate is used for lowering the risk of stroke and blood clots in adults with atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem, treating deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after 5 to 10 days of injected anticoagulant, lowering the risk of them coming back, preventing them after hip replacement, and treating blood clots in children 8 to under 18 years. The US label carries a boxed warning that stopping it early raises the risk of blood clots and stroke, and that bleeding around the spine (spinal or epidural hematoma), which can cause lasting paralysis, can happen in people who have spinal anesthesia or a spinal puncture. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.

Prescription status

Dabigatran is a prescription medicine in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. Pradaxa 110mg itself is an Indian market pack and is not approved by the FDA, MHRA, TGA or Health Canada. The FDA says that importing unapproved medicines for personal use is illegal in most circumstances, so check the rules where you live.

Before you order
