What is Xarelto 10mg?

Xarelto 10mg is rivaroxaban, an anticoagulant (factor Xa inhibitor), sold in India under the Xarelto brand name by Bayer Zydus Pharma. Each tablet contains rivaroxaban 10 mg.

What it is used for

According to the US FDA label for Xarelto (DailyMed), rivaroxaban is used for lowering the risk of stroke in atrial fibrillation not caused by a heart valve problem, treating deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism and lowering the risk of them coming back, preventing clots after hip or knee replacement and in some hospital patients, lowering the risk of major heart and clot events in coronary or peripheral artery disease, and some clot treatment and prevention uses in children. The US label carries a boxed warning that stopping it early raises the risk of blood clots and stroke, and that bleeding around the spine (spinal or epidural hematoma), which can cause lasting paralysis, can happen in people who have spinal anesthesia or a spinal puncture. Your doctor decides whether it suits you.

Prescription status

Rivaroxaban is a prescription medicine in the US, UK, Australia and Canada. Xarelto 10mg itself is an Indian market pack and is not approved by the FDA, MHRA, TGA or Health Canada. The FDA says that importing unapproved medicines for personal use is illegal in most circumstances, so check the rules where you live.
